For the ipl2022 opener between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, we’ve put together a fantasy XI.
Wankhede Stadium, Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders, March 26.
Sam Billings, Shreyas Iyer, Nitish Rana, Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad (capt), Andre Russell, Venkatesh Iyer (vice-capt), Ravindra Jadeja, Varun Chakravarthy, Dwayne Bravo, Maheesh Theekshana, Ravindra Jadeja, Varun Chakravarthy, Dwayne Bravo, Maheesh Theekshan
Ruturaj Gaikwad is the captain.
Gaikwad was the greatest run-getter in the IPL 2021 season, with 635 runs in 16 games at an average of 45.35, making him the best leadership pick for the season’s first game. In the IPL, he has 72, 64, 40, and 32 points versus Kolkata Knight Riders. He’s been hampered by overseas quicks early in the innings on a few times, but in the absence of Pat Cummins, expect Gaikwad to make an immediate impact.
Shreyas Iyer is the vice-captain.
Shreyas Iyer, the Knight Riders’ new captain and India’s in-form batsman, is an obvious contender for one of the captaincy jobs. His previous three T20I scores for India were 73*, 74*, and 57*, and since the start of the year, he has scored 549 runs in 11 innings for India across all forms.
Picks of the Week
Venkatesh Iyer: He was the find of the 2021 season, scoring 370 runs in ten games at an average of 41.11 last year, the second-highest run-scorer in the UAE leg. He’s been working on his bowling as well, and he’ll most likely pitch in and help you out with some bowling points.
Ravindra Jadeja: The Super Kings’ new skipper has been on a purple patch with the bat for a while now. As a result of his new role, he will most likely bat higher in the order and contribute significantly to his team’s run totals. He won the Player-of-the-Match title last year after a stunning 62* off 28 balls and figures of 4-1-13-3 against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium.
Devon Conway: In the last couple of years, the IPL rookie has been hitting runs in a variety of formats. Since the start of 2020, he has 1303 runs in 37 innings at an average of 50.12 and a strike rate of 131.22 in T20s. With Moeen Ali out, he is a foregone conclusion that he will start this game.
Maheesh Theekshana is the newest mystery spinner to hit the scene. In powerplays, he has taken 16 wickets in 25 T20 innings at an exceptional economy rate of 6.52.
